Painting A Day : Peel

This brilliant idea originated in the mind of Virginia based painter and teacher Duane Keiser. Painters/bloggers paint a small work and post it to a blog each day. Below is a video of a post on his blog, where he paints a tangerine, peels it partway, repaints it on the same panel, peels it some more, repaints it again, sections it, paints it again, reduces it to a single section and paints it again.

Yinka Shonibare

Yinka Shonibare is a contemporary artist who explores issues of race and class through a range of media that includes sculpture, painting, photography, and installation art. A key material in Shonibare's work  are the brightly coloured 'African' fabrics which is actually Dutch wax-printed cotton that he buys himself from Brixton market in London.  He sometimes recreates famous paintings or stories from literature  using headless dummies with the 'Africanised' clothing instead of their original costumes.

This week i decided to share some work from a few of my favorite artists

Tim Burton an American film director, film producer, writer and artist. He is famous for dark, quirky-themed movies such as BeetlejuiceEdward ScissorhandsThe Nightmare Before ChristmasSleepy HollowCorpse Bride and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and for blockbusters such as Pee-wee's Big AdventureBatmanBatman ReturnsPlanet of the ApesCharlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland. A compilation of his drawings, entitled The Art of Tim Burton, was released in 2009.

any one remember "Mars Attack"? lol

Ryan Mcginness

Known for his original extensive vocabulary of graphic drawings which use the visual language of public signage, corporate logos, and contemporary iconography, McGinness creates paintings, sculptures, and environments. Concerned with the perceived value of forms, McGinness is interested in assuming the power of this anonymous aesthetic in order to share personal expressions. His work is in the permanent public collections of the Museum of Modern ArtVirginia Museum of Fine ArtsMuseum of Contemporary Art San DiegoCincinnati Art MuseumMUSAC in Spain, and the Misumi Collection in Japan.

Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami is a prolific contemporary japanese artist who works in both fine arts media—such as painting—as well as digital and commercial media. He blurs the boundaries between high and low art. He appropriates popular themes from mass media and pop culture, then turns them into thirty-foot sculptures, "Superflat" paintings, or marketable commercial goods such as figurines or phone caddies.
